I won't summarize the plot as it has been done already. I will say I am not an avid fan of sci-fi or fantasy BUT I did enjoy this story until the end or lack there of. There were other issues but those issues I can overlook because the author is self-published and doesn't have the same resources as authors with book deals. These issues included a lack of character development and a storyline that was less than fluid and often left more questions than answers. As for the ending let me say this if you want a conclusion this book will not provide even the smallest. I realize this is the intro for the next book, however, it doesn't make me want to purchase the next book in the least for fear I will have spent my precious reading time involved in a story that leaves me unsatisfied.
Good luck to the author. It is a good story but not a series I will be waiting on.

I actually started reading the second book, got a few chapters in and was so impressed with the writing and story that I immediately stopped and bought the first book BOUND. I had to know more about the characters and how they got to where they are when book two starts. I love these characters. For those readers who have complained about Kira's attitude, personality or character, I say it is exactly those things that make her easy to relate to. I challenge anyone put in a situation like Kira to be perfect in every decision. She is a teen and a human and we all have choices to make, I find the choices Kira and Lydia make are exactly what makes them so lovable. I found myself pulled into their story and shared every bit of their happiness, outrage, frustration and despair and wished everyone could experience a friendship like these two girls have. Of course, who would not be attracted to a man like Octavion? He is the consummate hero, protecting those he loves with a vengeance. Give this series a chance, you will be hooked from the first chapter.
I was intrigued after the first chapter and just couldn't put the book down, every moment I had to read, (even walking to the parking lot, LOL), I'd get lost in Kira's world.
C.K. Bryant has a great imagination and those vivid imagery shines all through this book. This story contains; Paranormal/Urban Fantasy, Suspense, Thriller, enchantment, Romance, a bit of Sci-Fi and a whole lotta action, and of course, great wit, humor, banter and comical satire that happens in most our heads when we're nervous and/or overly anxious. what more can anyone ask for!?!
I rated the book a 4 (I would've put 4.5, but it won't let me), because the lack of character development with the Protagonist. The other characters you learn more as you read, but the only thing I've gleaned about her life is her mother abandoned her and she always had a gift, but there's no further explanations for either event. I hope more will be revealed in the upcoming book(s), as I personally would like to know more about her circumstances, leading to how Kira, Lydia and Octavion met.
A great read and page-turner! I've just purchased the 2nd book of the series and anxious to find out what's next.
Let me just start off by saying that Bound by author CK Bryant is riveting, action-packed, and downright enjoyable. From the first page to the last I was enmeshed in the complicated world of the mousy Kira, and her rambunctious best friend, Lydia. Not to mention, the charismatic, but somewhat domineering Octavian, Lydia's brother and protector, and Kira's awakening crush.
After a photo shoot in the wilderness goes wrong and Lydia is forced to confront her troubled past and explain the inconsistencies in her personality to her friend Kira, the author takes us on a journey with zero backward glances. Learning of Lydia's true heritage and Octavian's role, Kira begins to understand that the world is so much bigger than she believed. Dangerous assassins and tales of another world place the understandably confused Kira at an impasse. Does she go back to the world she knows despite no longer having a place in it? Or does she learn to accept the truth her friends reveal, bind herself to Lydia and become something so much more than her fragile human mind can accept?
Bound is a fast-paced novel eloquently written with detailed imagery, relevant dialogue, and an ever-thickening plot designed to turn pages. The characters are compelling - Octavian for his almost brutish charm and in-congruent softness. Lydia for her two personalities - compassionate, genuine sister and friend teamed with the hard-as-nails fighter and defiant princess. Kira, initially believed as insignificant and fragile, soon hardens from the sum of her experience, gaining loyalty, perseverance and respect.
What I loved most about this novel was the genuine balance between action, intent, dialogue and blossoming romance. Information was streamed with relevant pause and attention to detail. Coupled with nefarious agenda and the prospect of hope, Bound is a gripping story with plenty room to manoeuver in future releases.
I happily rate this novel four fangs out of five.
